The Birthing of the Drum
“In my journey of drum making, I have discovered that our drums are like our children. In the creation of these powerful sacred instruments, we are giving birth to a life force that taps into our connection of our primal essence and our inner child.
The most significant piece in making relations with our drums is to do just that. Make relations. This is done by developing a bond or a love for your drum and bringing that bond into form by acting out our reverence for the sacred. We begin the process while crafting our drums with prayers of gratitude for the animal and the tree who have given their life for us to make our power object. As the drum dries overnight we awake every two hours to turn the drum and caress the new birth as we do with a newborn. We continue to initiate our relationship with a journey that shows us our drum’s name and how he/she will show us how he/she will share in our life.
Rhythms and beats are born from our hearts in reflection to life beats of Mama. Setting intent to connect with Mother Earth and Father Sky, we then step through the gateway of our heart. Once on the other side, the sounds of the drum carry us and the resonance opens us into the Spirit realm where visions and healing can be seen, felt, heard, smelled, tasted….known. Sometimes there is a great knowing that comes from a drum journey and sometimes it is a continuation of healing. Your drum is your guide in some ways and you are his/her guardian. It is a relationship of co-responsibility and one to be nurtured…all ways…always.”

When drums are crafted, a magical event occurs. Such as a birth is a miraculous event that brings magic and messages from a new life being born, this is so when Drums are being crafted on your behalf. The relationship begins with Conception. You are calling in a guide, your drum.
How is this sacred instrument of a new life here to guide you?
The journey continues with the crafting or Birthing process. Symbols are chosen that offer insight and are engraved into the hoop of the drum. The weaving of the elements of animal hide, the wood hoop, crystals, shells, bones or beads and YOU begins to emerge into your sacred instrument of insight, healing and power.
The final phase is the Divination. This is when you are given a message on how you can best be a guardian for your drum. Your Drum is your guide and you are your drums guardian. This is the beginning of a new relationship of you and your drum, your sacred instrument for spiritual growth and practices.

Caring For Your Drum
Leaving your drum in excessive heat, cold or moisture may alter or damage its longevity. Occasionally spritz with water in drier climates, especially in extreme heat. Keep cool and dry in humid climates.
